The Sacredness of Human Life

Oct 25, 2026  •  Andrew Ivester

Pastor Andrew walks us through Exodus 20:13, “You shall not murder,” explaining that human life is sacred because every person bears the image of God. He shows that the commandment forbids not only the act of murder but also the hatred, anger, contempt, and desire for revenge that grow in the heart. Because life belongs to God, Christians are called not merely to avoid harming others but to protect, preserve, and love their neighbors, including the unborn, the elderly, the suffering, and the vulnerable. Pastor Andrew also addresses difficult issues such as abortion, euthanasia, suicide, and capital punishment, emphasizing that justice must be pursued carefully, humbly, and without hatred. He points to Jesus as the One who perfectly honored life, was unjustly murdered, and gave his life so that sinners might receive eternal life. In response, believers are called to repent of anger and indifference and to reflect the heart of the life-giving God.
