Rest for the People of God
Pastor Andrew explains Exodus 20:8–11 as God’s command for Israel to keep the Sabbath holy through a rhythm of work, rest, worship, mercy, and trust. The Sabbath reminded Israel that they were no longer slaves under Pharaoh but redeemed people who could stop working because God sustained them. He shows that Jesus fulfills the Sabbath by offering true rest for weary souls through his finished work, death, and resurrection. Because of Christ’s resurrection, Christians are not bound to the Mosaic Sabbath regulations, but the Lord’s Day gives the church a meaningful weekly rhythm centered on worship, rest, fellowship, and mercy. Pastor Andrew urges believers to make Sunday distinct without turning it into a legalistic rulebook, prioritizing gathered worship and practices that help the soul rest in God. Ultimately, the weekly rhythm points forward to the eternal Sabbath rest that remains for the people of God in the new creation.
