Hallowed Be Your Name
Pastor Andrew preaches from Exodus 20:7, teaching that the third commandment is about far more than avoiding God’s name as a curse word. Because God’s name reveals his character, authority, holiness, and covenant faithfulness, his people must not use it in empty, false, careless, or manipulative ways. Pastor Andrew explains that taking God’s name in vain includes irreverent speech, false oaths, claiming divine authority where God has not spoken, and professing Christ while living in a way that dishonors him. Christians bear the name of Christ, so their words, worship, conduct, and witness should increasingly reflect the God they confess. Pastor Andrew points to Jesus as the One who perfectly revealed and honored the Father’s name and then died for sinners who have failed to do so. Believers are called to pray and live in light of Jesus’ words: “Hallowed be your name.”
