Listen and Respond to the Better Word

This powerful exploration of Hebrews 12:25-29 confronts us with an urgent question: What are we doing with God's voice? The passage places us between two realities - the terrifying holiness of Mount Sinai and the welcoming grace of Mount Zion. Yet the message is clear: access to God through Christ doesn't diminish His holiness or our responsibility to listen. We're warned against the subtle dangers of spiritual drift, those small compromises and delayed obediences that slowly pull us away from Christ. The text reveals that everything in our lives - our careers, health, relationships, plans - is shakable. Only God's kingdom stands unshaken. This isn't meant to terrify us but to liberate us from clinging to temporary things that fuel our anxiety and steal our peace. The consuming fire of God's holiness, which should have destroyed us, fell instead on Jesus at the cross. Because of this incredible mercy, we can approach God with both confidence and reverence. The call is to loosen our grip on what's passing away, embrace gratitude for the unshakable kingdom we've received, and live our entire lives as acts of worship marked by holy fear and wonder at what Christ has done for us.
