Boasting in Christ Alone

We all make judgments every day, weighing one thing against another, deciding what matters most. But what happens when we turn that evaluative lens on our own lives and accomplishments? Philippians 3 confronts us with a stunning proposition: everything we've achieved, every credential we've earned, every accolade we've received is worthless compared to knowing Christ. This isn't false humility or self-deprecation. It's the radical reorientation that happens when we truly encounter Jesus. The passage walks us through a powerful resume of religious pedigree and personal achievement, only to declare it all as rubbish, as loss, for the sake of gaining Christ. We're challenged to examine what we're really boasting in. Are we subtly adding our works to grace, thinking that surely our efforts count for something? The truth cuts deeper: we must worship by the Spirit, glory in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh. This means our righteousness isn't our own but comes through faith in Christ alone. The message invites us into something profoundly liberating: when we stop trying to measure up through our own efforts and instead rest in Christ's righteousness, we discover a joy that can't be stolen and a treasure that never fades. The question echoes in our hearts: will we count everything as loss to gain Christ?
